The Bear, and Bertie, and Me

Hi everyone,

I am very sorry for not posting in an absolute age!! Last week I was on holiday (more on that in a separate post) and the week before I was terribly poorly with flu and therefore incapable of doing anything other than going straight to bed when I got home from work.

For any of you who don't know - I turned 30 on the 25th February. I wanted to do something special to mark the occasion so arranged a decadent birthday lunch with some of my closest friends at a local establishment called The Crazy Bear. There are only 3 locations for this very individual and discerning chain, one in Oxfordshire, one in Covent Garden and one in Beaconsfield, which is a town just down the road from me.

Designed to harken back to the days of the speakeasies and opulent cabaret clubs, The Crazy Bear is the most exciting and unusual place I know that doesn't involve a trip to a larger town or London.

We started with cocktails in the bar......

Then we moved into the restaurant where we were seated in a private booth!

I started off with smoked salmon - it was delicious.

Everyone happily tucking into their starters.

Myself and Clare.

For the main course I chose the shoulder of roast lamb with all the trimmings.

Clare inspired serious food envy with her posh pasty and triple cooked chips!!

I think I'm rather tipsy here!!

Pudding was iced banana parfait - absolutely delicious.

Mr 'Whatlisawrote' plumped for a sticky ginger pudding which looked rather good.

I had a fabulous time, it was the perfect way to celebrate a landmark birthday.

More info on The Crazy Bear group here. Should you be near one of their locations you really should go, even if just for a drink. It'll be such a fun experience!!

Also, my parents have adopted a black lab puppy called Bertie. He is without a doubt the cutest bundle of fur in the world. But then, I am a little biased.

He is now 10 weeks old and turning into rather a handful (as puppies do!) but I'm sure my Mother will get to grips with him soon enough.

On my actual birthday I was working, so it was a lovely surprise to arrive at the office and be greeted by a decorated desk and presents!!

And cake!!

I was feeling tired all day which I now know was the beginning of my flu, so in the evening Mr 'Whatlisawrote' cooked me a superb dinner of duck breast with red wine and cherry sauce, mash and veggies.

Followed by some leftover chocolate peanut butter cheesecake I had made a couple of days beforehand when my family came over to the flat for dinner. I ate this reclined on the sofa under a blanket.

Tough life!!

Holiday post to come soon!

Bye for now,

Lx

P-day, V-day and B-day

Hi everyone!

So very sorry for not posting lately, or commenting on any of your blogs. Work has been ridiculously busy so I haven't had time to do an update.

I will do a proper one soon, for now this is a bit of a 'cop out' photo update from the last couple of weeks - mostly as a reminder to myself that I have had a bit of a life outside of work!

I baked some cereal bars to have at lunch whilst at work.

I tried out one of the hairstyles I posted about here ( I have tried others but not got any photos yet, post to follow soon!!).

I'm a bit obsessed with my recent purchase from ASOS - an aviator jacket. I've wanted one for ages.

Eating aforementioned cereal bar.

On a horrible rainy day enjoying the rugby, Kettle Chips and a blanket!!

Our first roast dinner in the new flat. Home made of course.

We celebrated pancake day - who didn't?!

It's my birthday next Monday, a new Moda in Pelle has opened around the corner from my offices - I bought myself an early birthday treat in the sales.

I made 'Mister WhatLisaWrote' a Valentines card with my own fair hands. He's so wonderful I wanted to make something special for him.

And finally I organised a pre-birthday lash up with a group of lovely friends from rugby before the official festivities kick off this weekend (it's my 30th so I'm milking it!). We went to my new favourite bar in Marlow called Baroosh for dinner and then lots of drinks!!

I had duck confit for dinner. It was really quite fabulous!

Everyone got exceptionally drunk....

Shots were involved, and prosecco....

I shouldn't drink tequila!

I would definitely recommend Baroosh to anyone, they're a small chain of bars in a variety of locations - if there's one near you I'd suggest you pop in for a drink or three! Details here.

This weekend I will be celebrating my birthday with family and more friends so I'll be sure to post about my escapades.

Bye for now.

Insta-update January

Hi everyone,

Just a quick stop by with some instagram photos of what I've been up to over the last week or so!

I'm seriously addicted to Instagram, being the incredibly nosy person that I am I love regular insights into other people's lives.

Home made vegetable tagine that was dinner one evening last week.

This cheeky neighbourhood cat quite often barges his way past my boyfriend when he opens the front door in the mornings and jumps up on my bed. Because I'm such a soft touch I give him lots of cuddles before reluctantly putting him back outside, before I get accused of 'cat-napping'. Boom boom. Oh dear.

Me with a massive bitch-face on before I went to get my hair sorted out last week, I should've been excited!!

Buried under magi mesh waiting for my highlights to develop.

Trying a new style as mentioned in my previous post here. I went for a 'Bardot' half up half down, not very adventurous I know but it was a Saturday and I was being lazy. This is incredibly easy to achieve, just backcomb the top section of your hair, then pull back into a half pony and grip in place. More interesting styles to come soon, I promise!

Post rugby supper yesterday of a Mediterranean mezze platter.

Employing my usual credit/debit eating habits today. Surely courgette and lime cake counts towards my five-a-day? No?! Well the apple certainly did.

Are you all on Instagram? Follow me @whatlisasnapped. And don't forget to comment with your Instagram names so I can return the favour!!

Bye for now.

p.s. I'd like to do a little shout out to my non-blogging readers!! Hello to Charlotte, Steph, Isabelle, Jessica, Andrea, Oliver, Liz and anyone else who I might have missed off (sorry if I did!), thanks for reading. xx
