Hi everyone,
Just a quick post today - thought I'd show you my outfit of the day.
Since I turned 30 back in February I've realised I'm a lot more relaxed about my style. I'm not so bothered anymore about 'standing out from the crowd' or trying to be too individual. Much as I love and admire my blogging friends who continue to push sartorial boundaries whatever their age, shape or size, I've found that when it comes to my style it's not so much about what I wear, but how I wear it and my confidence in it that gives me my own sense of style.
When I was younger I was a goth and although I may have evolved past some of the 'dodgier' elements of this particular uniform (I tend not to wear fetish gear in public anymore...) I still find myself adding little gothic touches to many of my outfits, today's is a case in point.
Necklace - a present from a friend
Jumper - Golddigga
Skirt - Primark
Wedge trainers - Primark
I like to think that this outfit is sleek, grown-up goth meets sports-luxe, but then I may just be bandying names about....
I know everyone and their dog has a pair of these trainers but I had been lusting after the Ash ones for months and my budget will never stretch that far!! The Primark knock offs are super comfy and a fraction of the price.
Happy hump day bloggers!!

Grown up goth - now there's a post title that got my attention! I really relate to your philosophy on fashion and dressing. I have never been interested in standing out from the crowd just for the sake of it. I wear what pleases me aesthetically and what I feel comfortable in. Standing out from the crows tends to be a bit of an occupational hazard more than anything else xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Lucy, I'm definitely more motivated nowadays by what I feel comfortable in and suits my body rather than deliberately trying to create a 'look', it's one reason that I've never been particularly good at wearing vintage clothes - I have a few pieces but never have one set time period that I consistently go for!

i love it! sometimes there's nothing better than an all black outfit with some accessories :) xx
ReplyDeleteThanks! I do love all black from time to time, it's just so easy.

I'd love to see you as a goth, back-combed and dyed black hair, chalk white face, facial piercings, big boots and all. Please show us a photo! It takes a brave soul to face the world like that.
ReplyDeleteAs long as someone's happy and confident and not dressing down to please a partner or to "fit in" with a crowd then kudos to them. Black always looks good on blondes! x
Haha, I'll see if I can dig out some photos although I think Clare probably has more of me than I do....
DeleteThanks very much, I can safely say that I never dress myself down to please anyone other than myself. I am uncompromising on my style even though it might not always seem very individual :)
xx
Yes! I agree with Vix, get some old photos on here! There's plenty of Nu Metal ones around and of course the classic double brunette one of you and Crysi in his garden. I love the necklace, looks like a much better version of one I had in 1998. I tried to fit in about 10 years ago, for a man, you know who.... worst mistake ever, all that time missed not being utterly outrageous, set me back for years. The more confident I've got the more "individual" I've come, I can't deny I'm a weirdo. Love those trainers too, they were a bargain! xx
ReplyDeleteCan we find some old photos? I don't have very many apart from some we took at college!
DeleteYes, you are so lovely and happy and confident now that you're no longer trying to be one of the crowd and I admire you for it every day.
xx
I only tried to be one of the crowd for a couple of years thank god and I wasn't very good at it. I think I know where I've got some great photos. No goth ones though
DeleteThats the best thing about growing older finally being comfortable in your own skin and really finding your ow style! Cute outfit xx

Thanks very much. Yes, it took me a while to get to this stage but I can happily say that I am comfortable with my style and in my own skin and that just makes life so much easier!!

Lol. I'm trying to imagine you in fetish gear walking down the road. ;) Yes, we all have our moments when we were obsessed with a paticular look. I like this one very much. The sneakers are awesome. I know what you mean about the Ash ones. I got myself a River Island version for now.

Haha, well at uni I was a lot more extreme about my style than I am now! Ooh didn't know River Island did those sneakers too - is more than one pair excessive do you think?!

Nice outfit :) I can empathise with the goth thing, it doesnt go away but it gets toned down a lot! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Yes, once a goth always a goth I think, just with better taste in hair, make up and clothes.

I don't own those trainers.....yet! but I do love seeing how other bloggers wear them - I like that you have kept the rest of the outfit feminine. It's good that you have held on to a little of your goth past though.

Thanks so much Colleen! I'm not very good at the androgynous look - always jealous when other people are!!

This look is fab! I own a similar pair from Primark and they are so darn comfy :) I could probably go running in them...or is that taking the trend a little too far??

Thanks! They are so comfy aren't they? Although I'd worry that if I ran in them I'd break an ankle :)

You look lovey Lisa, the make up suits you perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI want the boy version of those shoes!!

DeleteOh and screw the boy version of those trainers, just buy them!! ;)

ReplyDeleteThanks Josie!! I didn't realise how shiny my hair was that day til I saw the photos. All down to Aussie shampoo, love the stuff.
